The Bar Method: Gettin' Fit

I wasn't sure what to think when entering The Bar Method studio in Leawood. I have been to many fitness classes ranging from zumba, yoga and pilates. I have heard wonderful things about barre classes, but this was my first time. Owner Hoddy, invited a group of bloggers to attend an open house and experience a class. I was pretty excited, yet nervous at the same time.

Upon first impressions, the entry to the studio is beautiful. I could have just stopped there and spent my time happily in the space. The gorgeous mix of the white furniture and turquoise walls is gorgeous, along with a lovely smelling candle.

Class started with a light warm up and then using hand weights. I felt good, even though my arms were beginning to tingle. The instructors are great and really help to not only correct your posture and how you are doing the movements, but also motivate you to keep going. We continued onto the actual bar and that is when the shaking, burning and sweat really began. I won't go into too much detail, as I think everyone has a different expectation and experience during fitness classes. Yes it burns. Yes I felt like I was working muscles that hadn't been used in awhile. And yes, I wanted to keep going and see the amazing results that I have read and heard so much about.

Inside the studio

It was a great class and I would definitely go back. I admit I judge classes on the music and this class had an awesome soundtrack. It helps me to zone out a little and forget about the pain. This was especially key during the last series of moves, it kept me moving during those times I wanted to give up. I was a little sore the next day, but not in that I am in so much pain I can not walk kind of way. It was a good sore. The kind of sore where I knew it was a good class.

You can go to this studio at 5215 W. 116th Place, Leawood, Kansas 66211, in the Park Place Shopping Center. You can contact them at leawood@barmethod.com or 913-339-9348. Classes fill up quickly, so it is recommended that you sign up for classes on their web site.

Have you gone to a class there before? Or tried a barre class?

Au revior,
Jamie
